Passport photos for $0.99 (not your usual $7)
October 5, 2008I’m planning to take a long trip to Vietnam Spring of 2009. My passport had expired and so I have to get my passport renewed fast. I’ve heard of horror stories where people were unable to get their passport in time and had to cancel their trip.
I went to travel.state.gov and downloaded a renewal form. Filled out all the revelant information online and then printed out the form. To produce your passport the government require that you submit 2 passport photos that are 2×2 inches. At a local drug store and other photo processing places they are willing to spend the 1 minute to take your photo and print out 2 passport photo for around $7. I went the cheap way and took the photo with the help of my friend Steve. He took a few head shots of me shoulder up. I stood in front of a plain wall for the pictures.
I uploaded the picture to Snapfish.com and order the wallet size pictures. Wallet size are 2×3 inches and cost $0.99 at Snapfish.com. When the pictures arrived, a set of 4, all I had to do was crop the top one inch.
I mailed the form, my photos, and $75 check (renewal fee). Three weeks later I have my passport in my hand.
