If you update your Blackberry Curve v.4.2.2 to the latest update 4.5 you’ll be able to use features that were not previous available such as voice recorder and video camera. Also, with ver. 4.5 you can go up to 16gb of microSD previously limited to 4gb. However, some will encounter an error that will halt the process of uploading the new version onto the Blackberry. The error will show up on the device as either error 507 or 561 which just means there is no OS (Operating System).
Now you have a brick instead of a full on PDA. Follow these steps to resolve the issue.
1. Unplug the Blackberry and remove both the SIM card and memory card.
2. Install the updated version (4.5)
3. Run the Desktop Manager
4. Launch Application Loader
4a. Start the Add/Remove and it will complete the process

In addition to his 4 easy steps, I had to change the “Power Management” setting of each of my USB Root Hubs. This is done by clicking on your computer’s “Control Panel,” then “Hardware”, then “Device Manager”. “Universal Serial Bus controllers” will be listed under Device Manager. Click on it, and you will get a list of USBs named “USB Root Hub”. Right click each one and click “Properties”. Under the “Power Management” tab, click “allow this computer to turn off this device to save power” for each USB Root Hub. Doing that in combination with these 4 tips worked great. And, believe me, I tried everything. All the other suggestions are useless. This one is the best.
